As a foremost example, Streets of Rage Remake is a fan game that faithfully recreated the Streets of Rage series into a single game on the PC it was quashed by SEGA within a week of release. There are six characters available, from the three series combined: Axel, Blaze, Skate, Max, Zan and Adam, and two secret unlockable characters. Three other game modes can be unlocked later on: Survival (fight endless enemies until you run out of health), Flag (hold a single flag for as long as possible) and Volleyball. There is also a battle mode for one-on-one duels. Some moves are only possible when two players work together. You can tackle the story mode alone, with the help of a CPU player, or cooperatively with another human player. Zan suspects that Barbon's bar is a front for illegal arms trafficking, and the team begins their investigation there. Unable to face it alone, he contacts Blaze, who gathers all the help available to deal with this new threat. Zan discovers a new criminal organization planning to take over the city. The story picks up one year after Streets of Rage 3. In addition to familiar locations and enemies, there are also new moves, characters and backgrounds, more colors, different scrolling layers and 34 original music themes remixed for this version. This side-scrolling fighting game borrows material and sprites from the original three games to offer a completely new gameplay.
